Citizen Investment Trust (NEPSE: CIT) is a government-owned statutory investment institution of Nepal, established on 18 March 1991 under the Citizen Investment Trust Act, 2047. It functions as an autonomous public financial organization providing savings and investment platforms for Nepali citizens. The trust operates and manages retirement and pension schemes, unit schemes, and mutual fund programs for individuals seeking long-term wealth accumulation. CIT invests across diverse asset classes including fixed deposits, loans to organized institutions, shares of banks and financial institutions, insurance company stocks, infrastructure projects through public-private partnership models, and government bonds. With an 80 percent promoter stake held by the Government of Nepal and 20 percent public shareholding, the institution maintains branch offices in Pokhara, Biratnagar, Butwal, Dhangadhi, Surkhet, and Janakpur, extending its reach across Nepal's provinces. The company was incorporated in 1991, began operations on 15 January 1992, and was listed on the Nepal Stock Exchange on 26 December 1995, making it one of the early investment trusts in the Nepali capital market.
