Mero Microfinance Bittiya Sanstha Limited (NEPSE: MERO) is a class-D national-level microfinance institution registered with Nepal Rastra Bank (License No. D.Ka.Ra.Sa. 101/066/67) since July 2013. It was established as a joint initiative of eight institutions—seven commercial banks and one development bank—to provide inclusive financial services to underserved communities across Nepal. The institution operates 149 branches spanning 64 districts across all seven provinces: Koshi, Madhesh, Bagamati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudur Paschim. Mero Microfinance employs multiple lending models including the Grameen Bank model (5-member groups), Community Banking model (savings and credit groups), Entrepreneurs Group model, individual lending, and agent banking—enabling it to serve diverse borrower segments without requiring physical collateral. The company's group lending approach is based on joint liability and peer accountability, targeting primarily rural women and low-income households. The company was incorporated in 2013 and is headquartered in Nuwakot-Battar, Nepal.
