Looking back at how the stock behaved around previous dividend seasons, the price tends to run up in the weeks before the book closure and then give a good part of it back once the entitlement is gone, so anyone buying purely for the payout should think about the timing rather than the yield alone, and factor in the tax on bonus shares as well, which quietly eats into the headline number most people quote.
